Gateway Of India Year-1919 (Code: 021) – Mounted Photo Print

$ 46$ 80

Built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay, the imposing Gateway of India was designed by George Wittet.  It was completed in 1924 at the approximate cost of Rs 21 lakh. Built in the Indo-Saracenic style, the grandiose edifice  is  a large arch, 26 metres (85 feet) high, built in yellow basalt and indissoluble concrete.

The monument is structured in such a way that one can witness the large expanse of the ‘blue blanket’ right ahead, welcoming and sending off ships and visitors.  The Gateway was  used as a symbolic ceremonial entrance to India for Viceroys and the new Governors of Bombay.
