Old Oriental Building (Code: 197) – Mounted Photo Print

$ 46$ 77

Originally built as the Cathedral High School, this prominent corner building is located at the very epicentre of British Bombay, at the junction of commercial Hornby Road and administrative Esplanade Road and faces Flora Fountain. In 1893, the building was acquired by the Oriental Life Assurance Co. Designed by Frederick William Stevens, this is one of his much-admired works, with its grey stone facings with white stone dressings and silhouette of spirelets, turrets and gables. Its outline gets definition from the tall five-storey tower at the junction, with its tiled pyramidal roof topped with fashionable wrought-iron roof cresting, typical of the period.
